Microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae and protozoa, have all been around long before us, billions of years in fact, and form the building blocks of life.

As humans, the microorganisms we worry about are the Pathogenic types. These are the infectious varieties that can cause us disease or illness. These are what we know as ‘germs’.
